On April 24th, the digital design festival  Touch RGB took place. This year, Typeface.ge participated in the festival with a Keynote presentation: “The Voice Behind the Shape” and a Workshop session: “One Font, Many Faces”.

Keynote 

During the Keynote presentation, we discussed the importance of typography in design, talked about the development path of the Georgian font, as well as the current state and development prospects of the typography field.

In the design process, we often overlook an important tool — typography. It gives the text character, rhythm, and emotion. A properly selected font makes the design legible and readable.

We talked about the path that Georgian typography has taken: from the Middle Ages and fonts born in foreign countries to Georgian printing houses. Finally, we touched on the new challenges of the digital era.

Despite the obstacles, there are people who have brought the Georgian script into the digital world, created new fonts, and ensured that the Georgian script is correctly reflected in the UNICODE system.

We figured out new challenges in the field of typography, what problems the community faces in providing or using fonts, what the Typeface.ge platform serves, and how we can contribute to the development of the field of typography in Georgia.

The presentation was led by a font designer. Alexandre Charkviani.

Workshop

Within the workshop, Georgian and foreign participants became acquainted with the Georgian alphabet and worked together to create an artistic font.

During the workshop, each participant had the opportunity to choose a Georgian letter/letters, choose the shape, and finally, with a united effort, we created an artistic font. As a result, we received a font in which all symbols are in a different style from each other.
